Sad News - National Champion is gone

John Brewer, who in 2004 became the first ever US F-Class Open National Champion passed away today at the age of 85. John was a superb long range competitor and even better person. He was a member of many USA National teams and a founding member of Team Berger. He will be greatly missed by all whoever knew him and not soon forgotten!

That's for sure, Larry. I will always remember him as Mister (that with all cap's): MISTER GRAND SENIOR.

I am very sad to hear John has passed on. Not only was he a Great Shooter who was willing to help others enjoy the sport he was a fine Gentleman in every way.
He will be missed.

RIP John

John was a true southern gentleman. A great influence on me. loved by not only me and my family but anyone who knew him.

Competition shooting was only a small part of Johns life but he was a huge part of competition shooting.

To hear that a past National Champion has passed and that he was known as a Gentleman and Gracious competitor is a loss for all shooters. My condolences to his family and friends.

Although I was never fortunate enough to have met MR. Brewer I have shot many a match with some of his Mississippi cohorts William Wittman, Alton Britt, and David Decareaux to name just a few. Everyone who ever mentioned MR. John always did so with respect and admiration for his skills and love of the sport. May he Rest In Peace.

The first shots I ever fired from the 1000 yard line at Raton , John Brewer was coaching me. Little did I know at the time what a privilege it was to have a shooter of his caliber passing on his vast knowledge of the game to me. It was very uplifting to see John at Berger last year. My thoughts are with his family and friends, our sport has lost a truly good man.

Rest in peace John.

A very sad day. When I think of John, it makes me smile though. Him rolling up to the match is his RV. Always had a smile on his face and quick to help another shooter out.

I have lost touch with many of the shooters from a decade ago. Sad that so many things get in the way of what is really important.

John will be missed.

I had the pleasure of being squadded with Mr. Brewer at Palo Alto a few years back, not long after I started shooting, maybe 2014. It was absolutely one of the most enjoyable weekends I have ever spent. He possessed a truly great sense of humor, and he gave me a lot of advice concerning shooting, too. He also destroyed the x ring on the target so bad on his last relay that they had me shoot my last relay one target over to prevent a long target repair or change out. Mr. Brewer will be missed.

I can only echo the thoughts of admiration expressed here for John Brewer, we lost a great shooter and a person of the highest quality on and off the range. RIP John

John will be missed by all of us who knew and shot with him. A truly great shooter and fine gentleman. I will always remember the many dinners we had with him at the Whittington Center in Raton.
