Hi guys
Dont know if this is the right place to ask, but...
I have a doubt. We are obtaining authorization to produce jacket projectiles with lead cores in caliber 308 (in Brazil)
However, the authorities are stating that the same projectile (say 168 BTHP) must be tested for pressure, dimensions, accuracy, etc in all calibers for which this projectile can be used (308 Winchester, 30.06 SPRG, 300 WM, 300 WSM, 300 H&H, etc.) in order of obtain authorization to produce. They claim that the SAAMI standard determines this.
This will be very expensive
Is there really a standard that says that the projectile must be tested in all calibers for which it can be used to reload?
It seems to me that the logical thing would be to just check if the dimensions fit within the standards and not for the laboratory to reload to see the pressure generated, as the pressure is determined by the powder charge, among others.
If it were selling ready-made ammunition, with primers, powder and projectile, it would even be coherent. But just the projectile seems strange to me.
Therefore, would anyone know if this procedure is recommended by SAAMI or are they just creating difficulties?
TIA
