S&W Wheelgun Discussion -- 629 and others

Hi all, I've got an opportunity to pick up a lightly used N-frame S&W 629 5" .44 mag for $900. Stainless w/original rubber grip, and adjustable rear sight. Think it's a good deal? Would be buying from one of my reloading/shooting buddies. It would mostly be used for plinking/fun, but I could also see myself carrying it occasionally and possibly challenge myself with a deer hunt or two using it.

I thought that the model 629 was made on the N frame.

the trigger lock it's not a big deal the 44 magnum is a fun gun if you don't like all the recoil load them down there a blast to hunt deer with 240 gr. XTP's work best for me the price is good buy it and enjoy it post pictures of it when you get it

Buy it! I have the 8 3/8” barrel version. Great gun. I shoot 44special loads a lot for target shooting. Easier on me and the gun!

Go for it Laz, I owned two 4" 629`s they are great short range deer hammers. I sold mine 10 years ago and went with a 645 4". A little easier on my old wrists. Jeff

Jump on it! I have the identical 629 - 5" and all. Love it. I've had several .44s from 3" to 8" over the years and have long since settled on the 5 to 5 1/2" barrel length to be ideal. Carries easier in the field but still has enough length for a decent sight picture.

That would be the bogus and completely unnecessary round hole/lock in the left sideplate. Most Smith purists reject any revolver with this atrocity. All mine are "pure" and have none of that nonsense.

I have been fooling around with Smith &Wesson handguns since the ‘60’s.

I have a 44 Smith with the locking key, bought it at a gun show several years ago for $500.

As far as I can tell, it functions and shoots exactly the same as my pristine “S” serial number 1969 vintage Model 29 .

But then, I’m not much a “purist”.

I have a -1Series 4 Inch 629 magnaported and trigger worked.
It hasn't been out of the safe in ten years but I will keep it.

A "lightly used" 629 from a reloader could be an oxymoron. Just sayin'.

Is the original box & tool kit etc. included at $900?
