RWS Small Rifle Primers

RWS is premium stuff +++ with few importers into the US. I am getting into 1000 yard FCSA (50 BMG) events and finding 50 BMG primers was hard. They are pricey as heck, in 50 at any rate, but many top competitors use them for a reason. I may grab some of these small rifle primers just for comparative purposes.

First, I have tried some older RWS primers about 18 months ago and had very small SD/ES with Lapua Palma cases. I would like to try some of current vintage.

Second, the primers from Mid-south are RUAG with Rws label.

I have not seen any testing on the RUAG. Has anyone tested the RUAG?

RUAG and RWS are one and the same. RUAG is the overall multinational defence industries combine and parent, RUAG Ammotec is its ammunition and components manufacturing arm. RUAG ammotec's main constituent companies and brands are RWS, Rottweil, GECO, and Norma.

In the world of multinationals, the branding on the product doesn't necessarily tell you where something is made of course. With two of these companies' names on primers sold to handloaders, there is no guarantee that Norma brand primers don't originate from RWS in Germany or vice versa. What is pretty certain is that RUAG Ammotec's brands have a hard won and longstanding reputation for high quality and RUAG intends them to live up to it.

I only used RWS 4033 Small rifle primers that were made in Germany, but I can no longer find them. There use is documented in Hornady's latest 9th edition. These primers are used in Lapua, RWS and Norma precision rounds. The company is based in Switzerland. what more do you need to know? I just ordered 2500 for $68. from Midsouth shooters. The deal of a lifetime. get 'em.

One neat thing about them is the packaging. 5000 of them takes up the space of a box of 12 ga shotgun shells

RWS LR 5341 are the primers of choice for my .308 Palma rifle and produce the lowest ES & SD with Varget powder.
The RWS small rifle primers are equally as good. Several of my club mates use nothing else but they are expensive in comparison to other brands.

regards
Mike.

http://www.accuratereloading.com/primer.html Careful which powder and conditions as with any primer. Only info I could find. I tried to find Laurie Holland's email to ask. Maybe someone on here knows it. He didn't use them in his primer comparison (great article).

I am definitely curious. Thanks Coolhand for adding which powder and cartridge you had good luck with. Different cartridge/powder/primer combos can make a big difference and it is nice to see people share the info instead of just saying these are great or these stink lol
