Rutland Plywood

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
I am sickened by losing rutland laminated plywood but also relieved that nobody got hurt. This is going to have a direct impact on all of us if there are no other companys making that quality of plywood for gunstocks etc. I can only hope they can rebuild the plant and start over. My concern is ,are there any companys making this product in the usa? Are they competitive? The list goes on. I am going to say a prayer for all the displaced people in Vermont, tough times are coming for 170 people and my heart is with them.

Their stocks don't even compare to more hard working people losing jobs. Could it be possible to start a fund to help them? I m not rich, but I can donate something.

I think I mentioned the folks now out of life long jobs. If there was a way to help I am in.

That is truly a shame! Even if they decide to rebuild it will take years. I pray that the employees can find similar paying jobs at least.

A BIG plus 1 for Cousineau Wood Products..
I have used there wood for years, and I like the fact that they didn't insist on a 4 panel order ($800.00) or they are not selling you anything....

This sad news will affect our custom stock makers also. Bill Shehane, Alex Sitman, and no doubt others use Rutland plywood.

I'm going to play Monday Morning QB here, but ... According to David Sutton, a fire investigator: “It was in an area of some machinery that has been known to start fires in the past and the evidence we found in that room where that occurred, it appears that may have happened again.”

Seems to me if you deal with flammable materials and you have had fire related issues in an area of your factory in the past, why in the world wouldn't you have put measures in place to make sure there wasn't a repeat problem? Of all the things I learned while in the Air Force, one sticks with me the most, there are no accidents. There are causes and effects. Hopefully there's empty factory space somewhere in the area that could be repurposed for Rutland's use.

I'm always skeptical about fires like this. Instead of looking to see if arson is the cause, I'd be looking at their financials.

I don't see it as a BIG plus to us..... losing or cutting out other producers (in this case producers of laminate wood) can often enough cause shortages and supply & demand issues. As well as potential for price increase hikes....
As a consumer, having more producers means more product competition, and more resource. We just lost a major resource is how I see it.

I surely didn't mean that it was a BIG plus that they burnt down, and won't be supplying laminates any time soon, just that they (CWP) can and will take up some of the slack.

Will this have any impact on the boyds laminate blanks I just received some a few weeks ago and hope more will be available in the future.
