rust in chamber

heeeello guys i have some trubles in one of my rifles that has rust in the chamber and start yaming the rifle is a remington 7400 in 30-06 caliber is the weathermaster model, if someone knows of any good product to remove rust plz let my know.

Im guessing if you have rust in the chamber you also have rust in the bore? When you put a gun away hot it sucks all the moisture out of the air as it cools, and looks like a glass of ice water on a hot day. That and acids from your skin are why I only buy SS. You should be able to use flitz metal polish from any home improvment store and then also some JB bore paste for guns on your bore. Id use flitz and a mop on the chamber and a drill motor then start with JB and short stroke the bore and end with flitz. I can only guess that the barrel is only nickle plated on the outside.

it is a SS rifle whit a white teflon coating is a weathermaster model i don't see any rust on the bore but i don't have a bore scope to look inside, the chamber is a dificult place to reach i don't know how to remove the barrel that's the only way i see to reach the chamber comfortable .

Chuck a short enough piece of cleaning rod in a hand drill, and wrap 0000 steel wool around a shotgun brush that will fit tight in the chamber and work the rust out of it....
Use a bit of Kroil or gun oil while doing it....

AK, hopefully your chamber hasn't rusted severely. There are some heavy duty rust removers designed to penetrate rust and neutralize it. One available here locally is called S'OK its in a green can with a cloverleaf and it will eat rust. Look for these at the hardware or farm and ranch store. You can also find a flexible bit adapter for a drill, looks like a spring)and you can spin steel wool around it and use it to hopefully get the rust out.

I have seen 2 7400's that were put away after hunting season and the chambers corroded so badly that the extractor would rip the case rim and not extract. The only other thing that Big Green manufactured that rusted worse than a 7400 were the magazines on older 870 and 1100 shotguns.

Good luck.
