Ruined another young shooter today

DASHER DOME

George Clay brought Caleb, a 17 yr old, over today to test his
new 22-250 A. I. with 52 Bergers. I met them on the
road and told them to follow me up to the long range first.
This was the first time I had met George's neighbor. George
takes the boy deer & coyote hunting and Caleb helps George on
the farm. I thought a good place to start would be at 800 since
my gun was zeroed from JR & Jesse's Christmas Day visit.
I zeroed it at 700 yd then dialed up 3 MOA for the 800 yd
prarie dog. I hit Chico on the first shot. I gave the trigger pull
seminar to caleb and turned him loose. I think he had two hits
out of maybe 5 shots. Next George took a turn and I believe he
hit his first shot, missed the second, and then hit 4 straight without
a miss at 800 yd. Conditions were perfect as it was cloudy and
zero wind. I believe George was 4 out of 5 on Chico at 800 yd.
Bullet was 115 DTAC out of a Diamondback 6mm Dasher drop port.
March X scope 34 mm tube.

Then we went back to the back porch range and tried the 22-250 AI
out with the 52 Target Match bullets. The big 22 shot 3 shots
touching at 100 yds. Then George repeated the same thing with
3 shots.
He is taking the A.I. coyote hunting in the morning.

I believe I have Caleb hooked. He grinned ear to ear when he hit
Chico on his second try at 800 yd. I told him next time we would
go 1,000 but I think he has his heart set on 1600.

You must be god.

How did you get all that summertime grass and trees in Tennessee yesterday?

Do know one thing. Love my 22-250AI. Shoots 77 gr. Berger's "lights out". Great gun but not remotely close to yours. Mine can't change the seasons.

EEEEuuuu...that's "cold".

Kind of figured you were using that Dasher for the 1,000 and 1,600 yard stuff. My 77 gr. Bergers did kill 800 yard prairie dogs in Wyoming this past Summer but it took much shooting to luck into them.

Now my Dasher is another story. As long as it's relatively calm, things are fine at 1,000. Three weeks ago I about cleaned the first round of the 1,000 yard gong match locally. Round two it got windy. Needed 2 more MOA of windage and results were poor. Round three was funny. Try more wind and 3 MOA more windage. Cool to see the hits at the edge of your field of view. Not cool to see the score.

You have a priviledged place to shoot. Would never trade though. I'm heading out for a motorcycle ride right now into the sunshine. Just came back from a morning bicycle ride. Then the wife and I are shooting pistols at the local range. It will be barely into the 70's here.

Birdog,
Another great story, thanks for sharing and that's just great taking the kid under your wing and showing him the ropes, we need to keep the kids coming or the sport will eventually die. Another note to that is we have to share with them the politics with shooting and hunting as the school systems tend to only teach them the left side of things, if you and I don't teach them the truth then they only believe what they have been told and taught in school which I guarantee isn't what you and I believe in
Wayne.

I say barbecue at Birdogs, we bring the food, Birdog and Voldoc02 provide the guns and ammo for activities and recreation :D 8)
