Ruger precision rifle 50 state legal?

Went to my Maryland LGS today to see if they had the Ruger precision. I was told by the owner that the Ruger precision rifle is unavailable in Md. because it has a folding stock but I read on Ruger's website that it is 50 state legal... only limited in certain locals where fewer than ten rd. magazines are required. Also I thought bolt actions weren't subject to the same restrictions that semi-auto's are. I think I can buy this rifle in Md. and my LGS is misinformed, who is right?

Only thing I could find with regards too the regulations in Maryland was a Washington Slimes article that cited this.

Broadly, any rifle that has two of three characteristics - folding stock, grenade launcher or flash suppressor — is considered an “assault weapon” and now illegal in Maryland. The statute also makes specific pistols, rifles and, shotguns — “or a copy regardless of the producer or manufacturer” — banned in the “Free State.” They are as follows:

The RPR only meets one of those, short of adding a flash hider......that would change things.

Thanks for the responses, I believe Boxcar hit the nail on the head. I'm not sure of my LGS owners motives maybe he doesn't want the hassle as Dusty says but a sale is a sale I should think.

It is legal because it is a bolt action rifle. The attributes described are relative to semi-automatic weapons.
Don't go by media interpretation of statutes regarding firearms. Call your state firearms authority and ask them, then go to GalleryofGuns.com and order one. FFLs who WILL help you will be listed and the offers from them provided to you. You WILL save money and get your rifle.

I'd order one and from somewhere then straighten that LGS out. That's the way I do things, and don't care who likes it.
