Ruger PPC Rifles ???

Are the old Ruger 6ppc and 22ppc rifles any good? I don't do that much shooting, and thought I might try to find one. Anyone know what the factory neck dim. would be?
Thanks,
Daryl

I have a Ruger M77 I picked up off Auction Arms pretty cheap. It is the 22 PPC, which I believe was made 1993-1999 by Ruger.

Mine shoots the 52 grain Berger bullets decent, around a quarter inch, five shots @ 100 yards. It also does about the same with 40 grain NBT's at 3700 fps.

I do not know the dimension you want. The rifle I have will become a 20 PPC next spring. I'm doing a 20 Practical now, built on a Rem. 700 .223 Police sniper.

I bought a new Ruger MKII target rifle in 22ppc years ago and it liked H-335 and 52 Bergers. The gun shot .500 groups and some smaller after bedding and trigger work.I shot many groundhogs with it and the kills were automatic out to 250 yds.I sold the gun to a farmer who I left use it a couple times and he thought it was the best rifle he ever shot.Oh well I am sure it was.
anyhow I didn't have to turn necks of coarse and used Norma formed brass which I gave the farmer along with bullets and powder. That Ruger shot better than any Remington varmint rifle I had right out of the box.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I'm either going to build me a 22br off of a 40x rifle a friend of mine has or maybe find one of the Rugers. When the Rugers first came out, I wanted to get one in 6ppc, but they were sold out everywhere I looked.

Dayrl, if the options are finding one or the rugers or building a custom rifle off a 40X, then there really is no choice. Assuming you want the best accuracy you can get here, the Ruger wont even come close. I had a 77 MII in 22 ppc that I bought in 95 or so and considered half inch groups good ones. Ocaisionaly I would get a .25 or .3 out of it but this was not the norm. It's not the norm for any factoy rifle. Hell, my full blown 6ppc benchrest rifle wont even shoot 1/4 inch groups unless I am using windflags and steering her properly. About a year after I bought that Ruger, I'd had enough of inconsistantly shooting rifles and I sent my Remmy 700 243 off to Clay Spencer to turn it into a 6BR with a Lilja barrel, McMillan stock and Jewell trigger. When I finally got that rifle back and started shooting her, I realized in a hurry that I could never go back to factory. I do have several factory rifles still hanging around, but they dont get much range time, mainly because I have a few really accurate rifles to choose from when heading out the door. By the way, that Ruger became a single shot 300 Jamisom with a Shilen barrel that I used as one of my long range deer rifles. If I had it to do over again, I'd have left that Ruger on the shelf at the local gunstore.JMHO

tightneck is giving you good advice and if you must have a ppc build a custom if you can afford it.

The factory guns are good if your not looking to shoot .250 groups DON'T EXPECT IT OR CHASE AFTER IT WITH A STOCK RIFLE, it's a very rare find to make one do it consistently even after some tweaking, that kind of consistent accuracy costs a few thousand dollars and good shooting skills with the ability to read conditions. Many guns will shoot a 5 shot bughole group once and awhile and that group should not be used to measure that rifles true accuracy.

I'd also agree with these two gentlemen. If that is what you desire, build a good one. The cartridge is more capable than the Ruger can offer.

Like I said, I bought mine to rebarrel as a 20 PPC for use on prairie dogs. If it will shoot in the .4's I will be happy with that as a poodle popper.

Thanks again guys for the input. You all are right as once you have a rifle done up right, factory guns leave a lot to be desired. I have had Hart do a few rifles for me and they were awesome shooters, but it's a 12 weeks wait. I have a 6ppc right now that was done up right, and it shoots way better than I can read conditions. I have access to a 40x single shot receiver and will probably just send it in and have it made up into a 22br. That will be my Christmas present to myself. Thanks again for all of the input. I never talked to anyone who had one of the PPC Rugers, and was curious.
