Ruger No. 1 value?

I was in a pawn shop yesterday and they have a No 1 in 243. I didn't handle it but could tell it had been Ceracoated and the wood was decent. As usual, over priced, $1495, but that was expected. I just wonder if the coating helped the value or hurt it. I doubt I will try to buy it but never say never. I like those No 1's, but I prefer them original.

Rule of thumb, original is best and condition is everything....
most of the time, unless someone falls in love with it the way it is, other wise it's not doing you any favor

I suspect it will hurt the value. My concern would be why it needed Ceracoating?

Even if someone was in love with the ceracoat color, who knows if it was a high school kid or a professional that did it. If it starts coming off, both the ceracoat and original are no good.

Good way to take care of a gun you didn't take care of, is to bead blast the rust away and spray paint it.

If it's a red recoil pad No.1 rifle, yeah ceracoated reduces value by 50%. If it's a black recoil pad rifle that ceracoating may not hurt it much since it's not the collectible the red pad gun is. Also since it's a 243 it further makes it less desirable. IMHO.

Sounds like it would be overpriced at half that price.

I didn't even pay attention to the recoil pad. The coating kinda threw me off wondering why anyone would do that to a nice rifle.

Cerakote on a Ruger #1 just kind of ruins that rifle for me. I like cerakote, especially on my bolt action synthetic stocked hunting rifles but not on #1. Some of those older Rugers had beautiful bluing. To each their own, a rifle’s worth is what someone is willing to pay.

There’s an older red pad #1 in 375 H&H with gorgeous wood sitting in the classifieds right now, I’m trying to be good but that rifle is making that difficult.

Used 243...no thanks. I had a No1 in 303 British a while ago and didn't lose any money when I sold it.

Unless your using the rig in some drastic conditions Ceracote can cover a LOT of ugly.
