I just received a M77 today with the person having trouble closing the bolt. The bolt goes all the way forward, but when I go to roll the handle over it goes about 1/8 of the way and stops. If I push forward on the handle and roll it down it will go all the way. I've torn it apart and can't seem to find the main culprit. It has something to do with the sear engagement and the fire control lock up. I've taken out just the sear bar and it works very smooth. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm guessing the firing pin spring is bound or hampered by 'crud' from rusting?? Did you clean out the bolt internals? I have found the ejector spring/hole filled with rust on one early [none controlled feed]Ruger 77R.

While I was fiddling with my 270 Ruger M77, I had the same thing happen. The problem on my rifle was the front screw was too tight and caused the barreled action to slip forward just enough that the bolt handle was catching the edge of the stock. I dogged the stock up a little bit before I realized what was going on, but its a hunter/shooter and will get an A5L in the future anyway.
