Can the internals of the BX trigger be placed in the standard metal housing? Don't care for the polymer housing.

Yes,but it won't feel the same .The internals are slightly different with the poly housing . You may not see it with the naked eye,but you will likely feel it .
 
I've swapped out 2 stock Ruger triggers for the BX on a couple 10/22's, makes a good bit of difference in the trigger pull.
