Ruger American bolt face.

I have an American in .223 that I want to rechamber to .25 x 6.8. Pretty easy job on most bolt actions, does opening the bolt face on an American pose any special problems?

I found the bolt face on my .473" American to be fairly brittle. I would have a back-up plan in case it goes south. Perhaps buy a used standard rifle and use that bolt. I have seen them for sale in the $250 range here and there.

Opening up the boltface shouldn't be a problem. The ejector should be fine. The challenge is the extractor. Assuming the spring pocket is far enough outboard, then you either need to get a sliding plate from ruger for the .422 rim (probably not available) or so some filing/machining to your existing sliding plate.
