Ruger 77 ts 257 Roberts

Just fired my BIL's Ruger 77 in 257 Roberts. His Grandson is going to deer hunt with it this fall and they asked me to load some ammo, and test it. I had a box of 100 gr Speer sp's that had a price tag on it of $6.76 marked down from $8,45. It has a 3x9 Tasco scope and off course the mounts were loose. I cleaned it completely, tightened everything (most screws were loose) and loaded three different loads with A4350. To make a long story short, 3 shots in .681 at 100 yards. Trigger pull is terrible, but will make a good deer killer. Just had to post, don't mean to bore you. Barlow

Is this a Ruger that is so old it doesn't have the integral mounts? Or were the bolts that hold the rings to the mounts loose? I bought a 77R 25-06 to hunt antelopes in 1989 when I was in Wyoming. It was a shooter also but liked the 115 grain Nosler BTs.

It has the Ruger integral mounts, they were loose at the base. This rifle barrel is not floated, the pressure point is dead center in the forend, the barrel channel is tight to the barrel, it does not move around in the stock when you tighten or loosen the action screws. It's the only one I've ever seen that doesn't need tweaking. I have four of them and had to work on them all to get them to shoot straight. That's a good thing cause I don't have time to work on it anyway. Barlow

Barlow I had a 22-250 that every season needed wood removed from one side of the barrel channel. It started looking bad, as the stock was way wider one side but when it didn't rub it shot real good.

Ebb, My personal 77 in 257AI looks like a beaver chewed the wood away from the barrel, but it does shoot straight like that. It loves 100 gr IL's, and I have got to use it more. Barlow
