Ruer 77 action re-barrel

I've got a 77ST in 30/06 that I am thinking about putting a match barrel on, in 30/06. I put some ink on the lugs and it all came off when closing and opening the bolt so maybe they don't need lapped. This rifle when in it's prime would shoot 1 1/2" groups with Sierra 125's at 175 yards so it might be a good action. With heavy bullets it wasn't anything special though.

These actions aren't popular for accuracy work. It has something to do with the angled part of the action. It does have a flat base which should be better then a round one.
It wouldn't take much to square the action face if needed.

Has anyone been successful with these actions for 1000 yard shooting or is it a waste of money?

I had a MK II Target that I barreled to .243 w/ a heavy Lilja and it shot really well out to 1000. I definitely recommend pillar/glass bedding even with the angled bedding screw - had to replace a stock that cracked behind the tang because I was too manly with the screw driver. I like the action as it has lots of material on top and a nice flat bottom - makes for a stiffer action and solid bedding. Lots of triggers out there as well.
