RSO Training

At the risk of poking a hornets nest, is there a way to get range safety officer training without going thru the NRA?

Put in your zip code to look for trainers close to you

Many range operators require NRA certification for their insurance. Not saying CMP or USPSA are not good, but may not meet their requirements. The pistol club that uses the same range we use found that out last year when the new operators got the contract. They had USPSA certification that was apparently fine before the change in management. You should check with your range to see what is required.

Excellent point. I had both NRA and USPSA RSO certification as well as NRA Instructor certification in rifle, pistol and shotgun up until 2007 or so.

I highly suggest obtaining a hefty liability insurance policy from a company familiar with the shooting sports if you pursue becoming an RSO.

^^^^^^^^^ what hpshooter said is a must if you want to keep the stuff you worked really hard for,

Wow. I never gave that a thought. Shouldn't the club foot the bill for that?
Some do and some don't but I would not assume the responsibility in this day and time without solid proof that I had a minimum personal liability coverage of a million dollars from an insurer well versed in range operations and a history of paying if a suit was deemed valid.
