RPA Trakker questions

I have an RPA Trakker rear sight that was on my bolt gun monted to the side plate that came with the sight. I'd like to put it on the tube gun I'm building. Of course that requires a Weaver type base that I don't have. I saw a Lipski base for Weaver mounts. Would that work? I'm concerned that the grooves in the RPA won't match the base for alignment or even the bolt pattern matching for that fact.

Second question. I've seen the newer RPAs have numbered knobs on them. Mine of course does not. I've heard that you can have the knobs changed. Is that true and if so where do I send it?

I think that Lipski makes a base specific for the RPA sight, so I don't think the version that works for the Redfield style sight (Warner, Phoenix Precision, PNW, etc) will work.

OK Weber lists the mount on his website, but it's out of stock. Maybe get in contact with and see if he can order one for you. http://www.okweber.com/order.asp?catid=2&subcat=4

You must have a base with the rpa grooves in it I have two Lipski bases with rpa mounts on them and they work great on tubegun and spacegun. Years ago Derrick Martin at Accuracy Speaks modified a rpa bolt gun mounting plate and screwed it to one of his mounting blocks for my first spacegun. Not sure if he still does this but it works well and I'm still using it. OK Weber is the go to guy for rpa parts in the USA. If you can't locate the numbered knobs just zero the rifle and adjust the vernier slide the then use nail polish or paint and a toothpick and put a small dot on both knobs like service rifle shooters do. Looking at the slide and checking the location of paint mark you won't loose your zero and you can't be one rev. off I have done this for years with good results. RPA sites are one of the most durable sights there ever was too bad they aren't more available. Ed

Scott Medesha makes a superior rear sight base - for the Redfield type mount. But, I discovered that if you can get the proper front sight height you can remove the side plate and put the RPA directly on the grooved Medesha base. Not perfect but I believe it is better than the Lipski mount that I also have.

I spoke to Medesha about this very subject recently and he would consider making RPA bases the next time he runs them.
