Rounding off a McMillian stock

I have an older style Bruno/McMillian stock and the edges to it are rather sharp and hard on the hands. Should be easy enough to sand it down to a rounded edge, more like the new version. Any problem with doing this such as sanding through the pattern?

Any suggestions on how to sand it down? Grit to start with, grit to finish with?...I assume a wet sand will be needed at the end to polish it up. Any advice would be appreciated.

You will most likely get into the fiberglass mesh before you get it rounded off.But then I've never attempted it.
I'm sure a stocker will chime in and advise.

Round it off and you'll be needing a new paint job, sorry..........
