Rock River ATH Upper with Burris 332 3 gun review

I just wanted to post a short review of this upper which I have had about a month after shooting it in a 3 gun event this past weekend. Prior to the shoot I had only had it to the range 3 times to try different ammo and try the Burris 332 optic at 100 yards. It shoots the Black Hills 52 gr. HP and 68 gr. Heavy Match equally well, both staying around 1 MOA at 100 yards which is as good as I can do with a red dot type optic.

The ATH is an 18" heavy barrel, much smaller than a bull barrel but definately heavier than an M4 style. The barrel is a Wilson match grade that is facotry lapped and cyro'd, RRA says it has a 3/4" 100 yard gurantee. I mounted it on a lower I have had for a long time with a RRA match trigger installed and a fixed butt which I like much better than one of the 6 position stocks.

I was the only one on my 4 person team with an AR so everyone shot my rifle. We put a total of about 420 rounds through it with zero failures of any kind. Clean up went very well after the shoot, the chrome bolt cleans up very easily and almost no copper fouling at all, just a lot of powder fouling in the barrel which came out with 6-7 patches after soaking the barrel for an hour.

The match was a charity event so it was not set up with any real long range shooting, the majority of rifle shots were from 85-300 yards with a few barricade shots set up from 25-35 yards. I was a little worried about shooting the 332 (3 power red dot) at 300 yards but with the large (6" x 9") steel plates first round hits at 300 yards were quite easy. For everything out to 200-225 yards it's just point and click, for the longest range shots just put the second dot on the middle of the target and a satisfying clang is the inevitable result. While we did have some wind I never had to hold off the target at the ranges we shot.

All in all this is a rig I can highly recommend, I really like the fore end on the ATH. It has a full length top rail and 3 short rails at the end. This allows use of bipods. lights etc. but the well sculpted aluminum grip area feels almost as soft as a rubberized forend, it just fits the hand really well.
