RL 22 and the 6.5-284

I'd try around 51-54gr with 140 class bullets, work up to the 54gr to be safe. You'll probably end up around 52.5- 53.0.Also try a magnum primer with RL22.

jeffrey....my sierra manual is on CD and my drive is down !
mattdienes...51 to 54 gr ! i had on idea i could go that high. i'm at 47.8 now and it's groups are getting real tight with NO Pressure sign at all. so 50 or so seems real doable.

I have shot 52.5gr re22 with plain 140gr Bergers. I now shoot 53.4gr re22 with moly coated Bergers. As Matt said always work up. Re 22 gets some real nice velocities for me.

Of the two rifles I have owned in 6.5x284. One liked 53.0grs.RL22 w/142 naked SMK. The other one liked 51.0grs RL22 with the same bullet. Primers for both were Rem. 9 1/2. Semper Fi

Wouldnt mind trying RL22 myself but because of the temp. extremes I have to shoot in Im pretty much stuck with Hodgden Extremes. Fine powders as they are.

Barry L- ALL POWDERS increase velocity with a temperature increase. I use so called extreme powders too and they increase just as much as the alliant products that I use. If you own a good chronograph do yourself a favor and shoot that extreme powder in the coldest winter and the hottest summer and you will learn that the extreme thing is ALL HYPE!!!!

You may very well be right on that. All I know is one occasion I ladder tested a 300WM and Sierra 240mk's with IMR7828 and developed a sweet looking load. It was mid spring and temp was about +5C. About a month later I went out with everything identical except temp was about +25C. I fired only two shots and each needed the bolt opened with a piece of 2x4, the primer vanished on the second shot and velocities were in the range that I was concerned for peoples safety in other time deminsions. Ive never had that problem with the Hodgden extreme. Ive got a max plus load for my 6.5-284 with H4831sc and shot over the chrony in all temps and the velocity holds fairly constant.
