RL 17 for .243...loads anyone

thinking of trying RL17 in a Remington 243 , have never used this powder, Loads ? Likes ? Dislikes ? bullets 95 to 105 thanks Neil

I have not used it but I did try rl19 and it did ok but it was a dirty powder. I had to clean more when using it so I don't use it that much anymore

I haven't tried it because I don't do a lot with the 243 but there is no reason that it won't work well. Basically the same burn rate as 4350 which is a great 243 powder. Without a doubt, you will pick up velocity with RL-17. I currently use it in 270, 284, & 300 WSM with very good results and I have not experienced a negative because of the powder being a double base. I absolutely don't shoot in 100 degree days but I have never seen my loads change from 70 degrees to 0 degrees.

The new R26 with the 100g bullets will get you 3200+ with accuracy, no kidding.

I use 44.5g of R#19 with the 85g Tripple shock with 1/2" accuracy, win primers bullet seated .050 off the lands, rem 700.

RL-17 is good for 65-85gr bullets.

H-4831, H-4350, RL-19-22 & 23 are ideal for 95-105grainers. H-1000 & RL-25-26 are good for 105-115gr. I prefer H-4831.

Max load 40gr (maybe 41gr) of RL-17 in the 243 with a 105gr bullet will get you less than 90% case fill.

I'm not saying it will not work, just that there are other more popular powders for the 243 with heavy projectiles.

I use it in my BLR & 87 Bergers. Good velocity, good groups.
