RL-17 and 6brx

Finally got around to play with 117 DTAC and RL-17. Very pleased with the results! 36.0 gr. gave me 3000 fps, there was only one round that was 2999 fps, the primers were slightly flat, no biggie, accuracy in the .2s at 200 yards. All this means, no more $40+ for a lb. of N550!!! My 31' Broughton barrel, 1-8' twist was VERY easy to clean. I always had faith, that RL-17 would work in the brx with heavy bullets. Wondering if it would work in 308 with heavy bullets. I'll give it a try!

As you know, I have had good luck in the 6BR with RL17. Since my last post, I have also worked with RL17 in the .22-250 with 53g Sierra MK molys. 41 grains gave me 3796 average and a .326 five-shot group at 100. This from a factory Remington 788 with the original 24' barrel. My borescope shows the barrel is almost gone and it is getting hard to clean, but still shoots pretty well.

Quickload indicates RL17 could also be good in my 6mm Remington H-S Precision with 55g Nosler BalTips at around 4000 fps for 50-51 grains.

I have not yet found a medium capacity cartridge in which RL17 does not shoot well at some bullet weight.

Thanks for the feedback sleepy! I went back to your post on the R17, I quess I missed it when searching. I had 17 shooting real well at 300y in my 6x47 but I have yet to use it for 1k comp.
I'll be tooling around over the winter with a 6BR-DX. Don't recall what the DX stands for. It's basically an AI 6BR with less taper then a dasher and the shoulders blown out to 40*.
Anyway thanks for sharing.

I posted some of my .308 RL17 data above, although the formatting got a little screwy. They are three shot tests because I was just trying to get a feel for the pressure/velocity relationship in the .308 with RL17 so don't put too much stock in the ES and SD figures, although the average MV and average pressure numbers will be in the ballpark. After that test, I decided there are better choices already for the .308 and haven't pursued it further other than a brief test with the Berger 210 which was promising, but just not a combination I want to pursue.
