RL-17/208 A-Max/ COL 2.810"

Ok I have yet to find any information for a 208 A-Max and RL-17 with a normal seated bullet, I would like to try and mag feed these and with an AI mag I can get to 2.900" since I have to wait a couple of weeks before I have my pennies together to purchase Quickload could someone run the numbers so I could get a good starting point and possible max? what I'm using is;

Winchester brass
Federal GM210M primers
RL-17 powder is my choice but I have some RL-15 and Hbrid100V
Hornady 208gr. A-Max
I would like to seat these with a COL of 2.810"

The barrel is a 1-10 27.25" long

If you fella's could be so kind as to help a guy out that would be great and maybe when I get my software I'll be able to return the favor. Later,

Kirk

This is how I did it, and loved it!
RL-17 + 208 a-max in 308win, COL-3.075, in a 30" Krieger barrel, 1-11" twist, temp was 91F at 150' above sea level.
48gr-2680fps
49gr-2720fps
50gr-2750fps
51gr-2830fps - flat primers bolt lift was normal.

brass was winchester with federal primers

Great but I need something with a COL of no more than 2.900" I have all sorts of information for long seated bullets. Later,

Kirk

Kirk,
You failed to mention which cartridge, .308Win? We will also need case capacity in grains H2O, if neck sized then capacity after fired and barrel length.

My bad I guess I was in a hurry. Here's some information that may help.

308 Winchester
Winchester brass (H20 new=55.6 FF=57.6)
Hornady .308 dia. 208gr A-Max
Barrel 1-10 27.25" long
1280ft. altitude

Does this help? Again sorry for the lack of info. Later,

Kirk

I called up Hornady and spoke with them a bit earlier and they had no data for RL-17, got some data for RL-15 which I have also but from the burn rates I'm thinking that if I Start out at 42.0gr. RL-17 and work my way up all should be good. The guy at Hornady thought I could get 2500fps with the RL-15 since I have the 26" barrel (Yeah I cut it down last night) Later,

Kirk

Your optimum barrel times are 1.39 & 1.48ms

This is the upper node based on fire formed brass at 57.6gr water cap

Thanks for the data, I ran some loads over the chrony the other day and got the following:

42.0gr 2237
43.0gr 2297
44.0gr 2344
45.0gr 2411

Wonder what is different? Later,

Quickload isn't perfect but it is a tool that gets you close. There are lot to lot variations in burn rate, neck tension/jam isn't accounted for, and I believe the program defaults to a standard primer. There are controls in the program that let you vary the burn rate to match your lot. If you have a Pressure Trace you can get the theoretical pressure curve to the actual curve.

Well sir I appreciate the data! QL is a good tool that I need to purchase to have those couple of times that I just don't know if that makes sense. Looks like it's going to be cold this weekend so I'll probably not be getting out to the range to try the other loads I have. Later,

Kirk
