RL 16 VS. IMR4350

Just got back from shooting my 6.5 Creedmoor at 500, 800 and 1000 yards. With a Lapua 144 gr. OTM bullet . Using 41.5grs. of IMR 4350 I'm getting 2780 FPS. And using the same 41.5 grs but RL16 powder, I'm getting 2882 FPS with a SD of 4.455. I was almost 2 MOA less with RL16 powder and accuracy was the same.

Doesn't surprise me at all, but I'm big into the Reloder series of powders. I talked a shooting buddy into RL16 for his 6.5 Creedmoor he's enjoying the speed and accuracy with his 140 grain target bullets

I forgot how well it shoots and was surprised at the increase in velocity and forgot why I stopped using it. It's no harder to clean, my barrel has no copper fouling to speak of. I stopped using my monopod and went back to my rear bag and every thing got better. All in one trip to my range.

Both are great speeds in the Creedmoor.

16 is great stuff in the Creeds, and similar sized cases.

I understand that. I really don't need the extra speed but it does help at the longer ranges. almost like a different rifle.

I guess I'm just used to paying more for everything now days. Every time I go shopping for groceries I feel a little sick to my stomach. Grin and bear it. If you use a 6.5 Creedmoor for hunting, A pound of RL16 might be helpful. It cost about .36 cents a round for the powder in my application. If it's a hunting round, no big deal.

Id take reloader 16 over 4350. My experience has been excellent with 16. Always accurate. In testing my sons creed, i found i couldn't get enough in the case to get to pressure and speed so he stayed with h4350
