Rite-Sight adjustments

Does anyone know what the MOA value are of the serrations on the stem of a Rite-Sight? I thought they were 5 MOA each.

Need to make adjustments from my 600 yd zero to 1K.

Thanks

Bob

I maybe wrong but for some reason I’m thinking that would depend on the distance between front and rear sight. Someone correct me if I’m wrong on this

yes... depends on barrel length. guns with ~26" radius it is ~6MOA per step, guns with 36" sight radius is ~5MOA.

for nominal 308 loads... on long barrels
from 100yd, you'll need about 11.5 - that's down 2 notches in front and up 1.5MOA on the rear.

from 300yd you'll need about 8MOA. So that's down 2 notches in front and down 2MOA in the back..... or
down 1 notch in front and up 3MOA in the rear.

Assuming Palma rifle with 155's. Down 3 notches on the front and up 1 1/2 minutes on the rear. Exactly the same as Bob3700, what's up with that? By the way, some front sights are graduated in 5 minute notches and others are graduated in 6 minute notches depending on the manufacturer. Fact is the notches are the same so go figure. A number is just a number.

The rough answer to the OP question is 5 MOA per notch. As stated in earlier posts, that varies on bbl. length.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

The sights I make (DB Machine), and RightSights are .050” per serration, and are marked in 5 minute increments. Riles sights with 6 minute increment markings are also .050” per serration.
With a 36” sight radius, each .050” serration will move your impact 5” per hundred yards of distance; 5” at 100 yards, 50” at 1000 yards.

The following was sent to me by a friend.

I talked to Scott Riles many times over the years I was selling Centra and afterwards. We talked about this marking a couple times. Scott and I had about a 36” sight radius. We both had very similar notes, if you moved one notch/serration, it took about 6 minutes on our Warners to adjust back to the same point of aim. We were both using a 30” barrel at the time. Scott said his sight was on the market first by several years but he didn’t mass market it much. Thus Wayne got the big credit for the sight.

interesting side bar, I can take a Riles with a centra lens and exchange the identical sight from another rifle and maintain a bloody good repeatable point of impact. One cannot do that with a Forshee built unit with a Forshee lens.

The “pitch” on the serrations is 20 per inch for both the RightSight and Riles. Scott made a few sight with a 16 pitch. That sorta made sense. The Warner sight screws were 32tpi. 16 x 2 = 32, dah! It didn’t fly very high.

He made more of the 3 minute 40 pitch) serrations, per Scott. The last batch of this pitch that Scott made were for me, he told me he had to made “x”, to make it work. I split the batch between a guy in CA. They turned out to work very well, very few clicks between various yardages. More important, very little cheek adjustments.
