Rings in freebore area

After making a chamber cast I noticed three distinct elevated rings within the freebore area. What is causing this to happen? Can it be repaired?

Send it to someone reputable to have the chamber polished. Looks like the reamer was tired or it picked up some metal and scored it lightly.I am sure nat lambeth or a similar smith can make it right even if it has to be set back a little to run a good sharp reamer in.

You said in a earlier post the rifle was re-throated for longer bullets and what you have pictured might have happened then. As long as it is not causing a copper buildup I would leave it alone. I have had a few Russian noisy maggot milsurps but never any Finnish versions, you have a great collectors rifle accept it as such.

The rings in the photo are sharp and crisp and you don't even have any throat erosion. You have a very low mileage classic milsurp collectible and just shooting your rifle will "polish" and round the rings pictured. If you want to speed up the process just shoot some British Cordite powder and watch your rings disappear. (Enfield humor) ;D

This forum is made up largely of competitive shooters with custom made rifles and 95% of the people here do not even know what you have. Again if copper buildup isn't a problem and your accuracy is good leave it in its original condition.

Thank you. I see Nat is only 1 hour North of me.

You are right. It is not causing any issues. The rifle still holds an inch +/- a few hundredths 10 shot groups at 109 yards. Just concerned what I was seeing and the shooters here on this forum know what they are talking about.

Biged is right, I would have rebarreled this gun a long time ago with this kind of accuracy! ;)

Sounds like it does well for your purposes, shoot it and enjoy it if it's not causing problems.

After the rifles throat was modified it would have been checked for accuracy and the sights regulated. If it had failed accuracy testing the barrel would have been repaired or replaced. Neither was done and it past rigorous testing standards much higher than Russian standards. Enjoy it for what it is, a very collectible milsurp rifle that very few people have. ;)

If it really bothers you I will trade one of my Enfield rifles with severe Cordite throat erosion for your worthless Finn rifle. (more Enfield humor) :D

Trade??? Never. Not even if I freeze to death with it in my hands.

Thank you all for the information provided. I feel reassured now.
