Ring height recommendation

I'm putting together a 6x47L on a Pierce action, with a Bartlien barrel in medium palma contour (1.25 diameter shank). I plan on using a Nightforce 8x32x56BR scope in conjunction with a 20MOA rail. What type of ring height should I be looking at to keep the objective off the barrel?

I'm wanting to use quality rings and expensive as the 30mm are, I'd like to get the proper height from the getgo, and not have to deal with returning anything that's too short.

Thanks,

Kaiser Norton

Kaiser, I used a set of medium height Burris Xtreme Tactical 30mm picatanny style rings with my NF 12-42X56BR scope on my Savage with a 20 MOA 3" ext base and the objective end is 1/4" off the barrel, which is 1.250 @ shank and .940 @ muzzle, depending on where I locate the scope on the base. I found a very thin steel 0 MOA base which puts my objective end 0.125" above the same barrel and scope set up. Which reticle does your scope have in it?

Ron - thanks for the advice! Nothing helps like experience. My scope has the NP-1RR. It seems a bit busy, but I bought it used for about $900 so I shouldn't complain. Obviously don't have it on the rifle yet -it's not even back from the smith.

Kaiser, what are you using this rifle for? That reticle might be a little on the busy side but I noticed it has a number of hold over points. Are you sure you are going to need a 20 MOA base? With the reticle that's in mine I might be able able to get away with a 0 MOA base. You may have the same issues I'm experiencing with my 20 MOA base (see my post - scope has no more adjustment).
