Ring height for a 50mm objective

I'll be mounting a Bushnell 6245, 30mm tube, 50mm objective on my nephew's 700 - he has a standard bolt knob - if any of you have the same set-up, what height rings do you suggest with most pic rail mounts? Posted this on the Competition forum with no results.

How high is your rail? Most of the time Burris signature zee rings in high would be fine. I run high rings with 56mm objective on Bat rails and Farrell both.

you probably didn't get a reply because these questions are so TEDIOUS. :P

All rings, and all bases, from different mfgs. are made to different specs. Things like 'low' and 'medium' don't mean squat. What you need are numbers, i.e. dimensions.

Figure out the thickness of the base, and the height of the rings (from base top to centerline of the scope). Account for the barrel (diameter and contour matter). Account for a bit of clearance. Too much is NOT GOOD. Too little is NOT GOOD.

Do the math.

By the way, the Farrell bases are typically quite a bit thicker than other mfgs.

The best location for a scope, in my opinion, is the closer to the barrel, the better. That being said, if you have a 0 MOA rail, most low rings will be fine. If you are running a 20 MOA rail, the mediums will be a better choice for the 50mm objective. Flame suit on.

I agree with X Ring on keeping the scope as low as possible. I recently put an EGW 20MOA base on a 700. Mounted a 50mm Leupy with medium Burris Signature Zees. I had plenty of clearance.
