Ring around the collar... Wilson stems

Hi,

is anyone aware of a third party solution to the seater stems in a Wilson seater leaving a ring on the ogive due to seating pressure?

thanks!

How much squeeze are you using. .002 is good to .003. If you have .010 of sizing difference, then that is your answer. Just size one and measure the inside of the neck and compare it to the bullet size. Maybe your bushing is to tight and you have to go bigger.

I have chucked up the appropriate sized brass brush, wrapped some 0000 steel wool around it, and polished it up a bit.

Alf,

i have had the sme problem and done just what you did, it is a rough or slightly sharp edge that needs to be polished.

I see them occasionally, but do not think they are critical. Have noticed no difference in accuracy. The base of a bullet is not as tolerant as the meplat end. I have shot spitzers with turned tips and no difference, but do not scar up the base or they will be erratic in flight.

I have a bushing that is 0.003" smaller, but a no-turn neck, so pretty good grip. The ring shows that there is a small contact area, which is never optimal. I'll try the steelwool trick and see if I can gte an improvement.

Another method to smooth the sleeve's contact point:
Chuck your bullet into a drill. Slather polishing compound on the bullet and use a slow drill speed to smooth out the edges of the sleeve where it contacts the ogive.

Presto, no more marks.

I didn't even know they had other stems :o

I've got a couple of regular ones here, I will try the polishing method first as ordering will take a few weeks (EU).

Thanks guys!
