Rimmed 300 Whisper?

Hi All,
Have a good friend that has a Winchester Low Wall Action and he wants to build a 30 Cal Whisper. Due to the rimmed issue could he use a 357 Magnum case and just shorten the 30/221 Redding dies? Any ideas are gratefull received as I have asked Smiths here and all I get is "Dunno" Please help.

Jim,
357 Max cases are very hard to get here in Aussie. Keen to use the 357 MAG Case as they are easy to get here. Any other rimmed case idea's?

Ray,
Cant find any information on the 222 Super with a 30 cal projectile. Need to run them under 1100 FPS as the guy has a Deer farm and does not want to alarm them with a loud report.

I should have been more specific.

You said you were looking for a rimmed 30 Whisper. Take the SUPER brass, trim it to 1.4" or 1.5", expand the neck to 30, fire-form and voila, a rimmed Whisper.

Hi Ray and thanks for that. Will keep it in mind. Mate has a heap of 357 Mag cases and I have run them through the 300/221 Whisper Redding dies to make a few dummies. It all seems to work well apart from the short neck hence the question of shortening the die a little to allow the neck to run right up into the die. Hope that makes sense?

There's no reason that would not work. I have a couple of wildcats from 40 years ago that did the same thing. 30/357 Paxton and 30/357 Hoskins. They were made to shoot the light 30 caliber bullets in a Winchester M92 rifle whereas the Whisper is intended to shoot the heavy, high BC bullets at sub-sonic velocities.

As our Norwegian frinds would say, "Same thing only different."

360 Dan Wesson. Starline sells the brass. Don’t know about availability down under.
