rimfire dry fire

I understand the reason that you shouldn't dry fire a rimfire. Is it ok to dry fire if you have an expended .22 case in the chamber? Certainly rimfire competitors must dry fire to practice like we do with centerfires. I see they make a snap cap for .22, would this be better yet?

Personally, I don't dryfire any of my Rimfire Rifles. Just ain't my thing as I use live ammo when I practice. But I believe a Snap Cap is the best ticket if you must. I've never fully understood what advantage there is to dry firing, other than perhaps getting a "feel" for the trigger and overall feel of the rifle. But that can be done in like ten or less pulls of the trigger. Live fire round give you the true feel of a rifle anyways. Just my thoughts.

this guy (with 3 olympic medals under his belt and several world titles) uses empty cases for dry firing.
I guess if it's good for him, it's good for me too...

Break a Qtip off in the fired case you are going to use to dry fire, if you dont, look in the barrel when done, you will next time.

Yah, especially frustrating after cleaning the bore! I'm cheap and just stuff a little bit of paper towel in there. Rotate the spare case after dry-firing so the pin tip meets a "fresh" section of the rim too.
