Rifled 12 ga barrel blank

I have been slowly working my way towards a project that will require a rifled 12 ga barrel blank.

My plan is to convert a savage 212 to single shot and use rcc brass to do a shortened version of a 12ga from hell.

More of a project to treat a 12 ga slug gun like a rifle. Reloadable brass shells, custom dies, fury custom jacketed bullets loaded out the front of the shell like a straight wall rifle cartridge.

What I need to find right now is a heavy rifled 12 ga barrel blank. I have done some digging and have not come up with much other than pacnor used to offer them. Any ideas would help. Thanks.

Emailed them, i will update when i find out what they say . Thanks.
I have one of Randy Fritz's(TarHunt) early bolt action 12 gauge slug guns. Believe he used Shaw barrels on the vintage gun he built for me.

PS: Mine has a muzzle brake. If my memory is correct, Randy's testing indicated that the brake improved accuracy in addition to taming the recoil. My slug gun has a 1 in 28" twist and a 2 3/4 inch chamber. At the time mine was built, Randy's testing indicated 2 3/4" loads delivered better accuracy.

Late update. Shaw will not be making any 12 gauge blanks for sale. While they will still provide good quality blanks for other calibers.

I am still kinda looking for a large 12 gauge rifled blank with no luck. Seems the project may not be built.

Perhaps someone else remembers more. There used to be a guy who had a very long string about his builds. It started out on 12/10 gauge and then morphed to other wildcats using brass cases. It was very interesting

I have not emailed bartlein good idea!

There is a 72 caliber blank on ebay right now
I think i found it. It is set up for a muzzle loader with. Solid breach plug. That would not be a huge issue but the contour is pretty light and the length is around 24"

That is assuming I found the same one you saw. Thank you

You might want to contact "Track of the Wolf" they specialize in MZL stuff.. I shot with a guy that had a 69.cal Hawken and one of Tracks barrel suppliers lists a 62 cal. You might be able to get a line on a MZL barrel maker that could build you a 72 cal. A Brown Bess musket used a 72 cal ball.

It may be a bit of a reach but Allen Swan in Queensland Australia makes them...
I have several of his barrels on different rifles and he is a good bloke to deal with.
My latest one was a custom profile in .338 He will make to order.

Bartlein has replied and they nicely explained that they dont have the tooling for shotgun barrels.

I did hear back from Allen swan or the shop at least. They make barrels but I am waiting to see if they can make the diameter and length I would like.

I have two rifled 20ga blanks for a long forgotten double rifle build. At the time there was a gentleman importing unturned Hastings rifled blanks (hammer forged). Very nice blanks…don’t remember his name..Allen possibly? I’m sure that business is long gone at this point though.

Also, if looking at muzzleloader type blanks, many of those are made with a basic steel for black powder use only…n smokeless unless you could get one of them to make you one in 4140 or similar chrome moly.
