Rifle storage ideas

Those of us that live in the upcoming colder climates and don't shoot as often as spring summer and fall my question is how do store your rifles ?
I found using the safe was not ideal due to the guns always touching each other and having to move three to get at one.
This year I drilled one of my floor joist in the basement and screwed in some large j hooks. Now I have almost all my long guns in soft cases and hang them from the joist for the winter.

I would not store mine in a basement without both temp and humidity controls and also monitoring of each. Also many socks have cotton, not a good option.

I store mine all in the safe with thick socks that have zero cotton and the safe has temp/humidity monitoring both current and over time high/low for each so I know exactly what's going on. It also has a humidity rod in it. This doesn't help with your moving rifles issue, but does keep them from getting dings and dents. I have a muti rifle stand next to the safe which is super handy when rearranging. I of course keep those I use least in the back of the safe. The safe is on an external wall as the safe folks said in a fire that is considerably cooler than interior. They even showed me pics of the differences for each after a fire, stark difference. I try to pull mine all out once a quarter to inspect for any issues in bore and externally. Probably overkill, but...

Of course if you have that much room, you could build a concrete room, get a safe door, put up wall mounts and have plenty of room. You'd still need to keep it temp and humidity controlled and monitored.

Another option is... fewer weapons. lol, I know silly me.

If youre hanging them from ceiling I assume security isnt an issue. Is build a rack for the wall or redo an old hutch so you can oil them, observe them to assure no corrosion, and be able to appreciate them anytime you want instead of locked away in a dark safe.

Back in the 80s & 90s there was a family that did most gun shows in eastern PA who sold vinyl cases with soft lining that tied shut for 4 or 5 bucks each. Cheaper if you bought 5 or a dozen. There was also a funny old curmudgeon named Wally whose regular job was, if I remember right, working a toll booth on a bridge going to NYC. He sold Wally Wipes. They were soft flannel cloths soaked with some kind of oil. I think it was ATF, but he said there was secret ingredients. Wipe down the metal & that was all it took. Luckily I stocked up on these items & haven't had a bit of trouble with rust even though some of the long guns were in storage for quite a while. The cases dont add much to the overall size of the rifle & fit in a safe nicely preventing safe rash too.

I’ve got one those Wally’s gun wipes I’ve had for probably 25 years.when I got mine I’d just get some on my fingers and rub over gun there was so much oil. Wish I’d bought a couple more

I had a rifle flash rust from sitting in a soft case for 1 week. There's no way I'd store one in a soft case long term. For me, soft cases are for transport only and only long enough to get to my destination.

Sounds like you need a bigger safe there is no reason for rifles to be touching one another .
I've got 3 saves and I live in a wacky anti gun country we even have pistols but for some reason a lot of Americans think us AUSSIES are disarmed all the best with it and remember GUNS only have 2 enemies politicians and rust .

Every gun I own is wiped down with corrosion inhibitor, put away in a corrosion proof ziplock bag and a gun sock. The sock helps squeeze the air out and protect the gun from bumps. I have never had any rusting using this method.IMG_1111.png
