Rifle Stock

My Savage 110 is on it's way to Hart for a new barrel. I'm looking at stocks and like the H-S stocks. They show 2 different action screw spacings. 4.2" and 4.4". I checked the spacing on my screws and they measure 4.5". Will the 4.4" stocks work?

If it is 4.5 you measured wrong,it is center to center and it is probably 4.4 if it is centerfeed or if the mag box is attached to the reciever it is 4.275 center to center. There is a guy selling a prarie dog stock by stockade and at 300 delivered it is a good deal and just as rigid as an hs precision.

The mag box is attached to the receiver and I measured it 3 times center to center and it came to 4.5 each time. I'll see if Hart will measure them when it arrives.

What is the prefix on the serial number? Sure you are not measuring outside to outside because they only made 2 different ones unless you have a really old reciever.Did it have a dumbell bolt handle that kinda looks crude by chance.

You indeed have the 1st gen reciever which is 4.522 actually and you will have to have a stock modified to accept it as I dont know any manufacturer that makes a drop in except by calling kevin rayhill at 1-318-432-5114 at stockade stocks and he can make you one to fit.

As Jon has mentioned you have what some call a "J" action, Savages first "short action" that was sold in the late 70's as 110V or Varminter.

I've modified short action aluminum bedding block stocks before for these actions by making the front action bolt hole a slot, along with a counterbore for a custom washer, works for Choate, Bell & Carlson don't know why it wouldn't work with an H.S. Precision.

For wood or laminated I've removed the front pillar, if equiped, replaced it with a larger diameter one, bedding with Devcon or your preferred brand is recommended with either type stock.

You are exactly right Mike. Talked to Kevin at Stockade stocks and he also said it was a J action and he also said to keep it as it was among the last of the machined actions. I also ordered my stock from him. 16-22 weeks. Not is a hurry as the action won't be back from Hart for 10 months. Guess I'll be pacing the floor staring at the 243 Ackley brass on the table for a while.

I love the ones I have, one I can swap barrels for anything between .223 Rem. and 300 WM the others are dedicated 6mmbr & .243 Win which is soon to be a 6CM.....or at least after the barrel is toast.
