Rifle Cases

Hey I'm in the market for a rifle case. What do you guys recommend ? What cases do you use ? Some of these cases are running close to $400 !

I use Starlight cases, they are the ultimate protection with a lifetime warranty. www.starlightcases.com

I like "toaster-style" cases that store 2 or 3 guns side by side. You can keep these beside the bench, open, but the guns are still protected from dust etc. It's also MUCH easier to access both rifles than with the "bunk-bed" style double cases. I've seen guys remove the top layer of foam which then immediately falls off the bench or gets blown around by wind.

If you're traveling by air, I much prefer cases with flush or recessed locks, latches, and handles. There are some otherwise outstanding cases, like the Pelican) that I down-mark because they have prominent external latches and handles that stick out. Worse yet are cases that have long, full-length locking rods on the OUTSIDE. These are all bad features when it comes to conveyor belts and interlocking metal baggage carousels.

The two toaster style cases I like are the Ziegel Engineering Safari case and the Strong Case, sold by Champions choice. The Ziegel is sturdier, with welded aluminum corners, but it is also much more expensive.

The,52"x9"x10.5") Strong Gun Case costs $265.00. It's overkill for a quick trip to the range--but it might get your gun safely to Africa and back again.

A much cheaper vertical style case is the Plano AirGlide,$30).

Jerry at bearcountrycontainers makes some great cases. They will and have stood up to some determined grizzly bears. I don't think there would be any problem with a ticked off baggage handler, or a drop from the belly of a jumbo.

I did also just get a couple of those Planos too, for just running up to the range.

I have a Kalispel aluminum rifle that will hold two long guns, also a SKB the violin looking case that is a lot lighter and easier to haul. One more comes to mind is the Bear track case. I have it for carrying pistols,it was designed by a bush pilot. All are great...just pick your case for the sport shooting you enjoy. 45/70
