Rifle ballance

I had my F12 260 rem weighted super heavy on the front stock, I could not get it to shoot anything, so I screwed the barrel off bought a brux 6 Dasher barrel took all the wt off and the dasher shot bugholes. I have now sold the Dasher Barrel so I put the 260 barrel back on without all the wt now the 260 shoots bugholes. I was tryin to sell this barrel on here claiming 1.5 moa at 100yds lol, GUESS WHAT i AM A COO COO FOR ADDING 17 lbs to the front stock this barrel shoots lights out at 14lbs 300 shots wasted time to get a balanced stock I learned my lesson. lol

Hey guys I have not been able to shoot free recoil on my newest 6br and tried everything in the book to make it happen and shoot accurately. I stumbled on an article on the daily bulletin and it made mention on how important rifle balance is. It stated that the gun should balance around an inch or so in front of the action. I tried mine and it balanced 6 inches in front of the action. No good. All I had on hand for a quick test was a unopened box of 107 match kings. One box should weigh around 1.5 pounds. I duct taped the whole box to the back of the recoil pad and that balanced the gun about 1 inch in front of the action. Well it worked. Free recoil now shoots tiny groups. From what I have read the best way to add weight to the butt is drill a couple holes under the recoil pad and use bird shot with epoxy? Would this be the best way??

With my background, I would lean toward making a plug to be epoxied in that has an internal thread, guessing abt 5/16-18, with a set screw w/ internal hex. Can add or remove shot as needed.
Before I get pilloried, yes, some packing needed to keep it from sloshing.
Orrrr, do an internally threaded sleeve, as large a dia as possible with different inserts, different wgts.

Weight needs to be in rear to balance. A heavier butt shoots better. When you put it up front the butt wants to lift on recoil.
I have seen hundred pound Dashers shoot lights out. Matt

Agree I learned a lesson the hard way lol

I had a knowledgeable shooter tell me the best way to balance a benchrest rifle was to use 2 scales with blocks placed at same points rifle will sit on rest and bag. Then balance rifle so both scales read same. Anybody heard that method before?

Unless you have a short barrel or very long stock, it would be hard to get them the same. Usually the balance point ends up a few inches in front of action. Matt

With 17lb LG is would it be best to get balance point as far back as possible even if it's behind the action face?
