Rifle Balance Question.....Barrel Taper???

JMO, but a coyote rifle that carries well should be short, light and fast handling. Now, coyote hunting in the east vs out west are quite different. If you're hunting big, open areas, you can do that well with a heavier rifle than what I'd consider ideal in this part of the country. I'm a bolt action man, but in this part of the country, a good shooting AR15 is very hard to beat for coyote hunting.

I understand your question. Obviously not an offhand carry rifle but you do not want it nose tippy when resting it. I had a 24" #3 Bartlein with an EH3 stock. It was annoyingly nose heavy on a rest or sticks. I would rather have (within reason) a balanced heavier hunting rifle over an unbalanced lighter one.

Phil: Take a look at a #3 or #4 contour Brux barrel and their weights. Also if this is a dedicated coyote carry rifle and you're not going to waste barrel life shooting vermin, paper or steel, just get the Proof carbon barrel find a load for it and it should last years with an occasional check of zero and shooting coyotes.

I think i was looking at the Brux #4 or 5, essentially the same as the Bartlein 3b.

Use a #5 fluted barrel. Isn't this a hunting rifle? With the components you have right now, you are going to exceed eleven pounds by quite a bit.
