My question is this, can I use a standard Savage action in a pistol and just re-register it with the ATF that way? Or would it have to be ordered as a pistol from the factory?
My father has been looking into building a bolt action pistol for Deer hunting, and he really likes my Steven's .222 that I built and would like to use the same action in a pistol, as he can get it cheaper than a target action or a custom. But he doesn't want to have to go through a bunch of crap to get it registered as such.
If anyone has any info on this it would be much appreciated. If it's too much of an issue, he may just go with an Encore, though he really like the idea of a bolt action. I have never dealt with this, so I am clueless. And he definitely doesn't want to register it as a SBR with the ATF either.
