RFD Action

Does anyone know anything about RFD actions . Quality ? Any known problems ? Any info will be appreciated .

Like everything else Bob Dodd produced, those actions were as good as any custom action made. His work was as precise as human hands and machinery allow. He finally moved on from that type of work and started making custom knives.

Yeah, he still owes me 150 bucks when he decided to duck out on my custom knife. Payback

I had two of his actions, my only complaint is the firing pin started sticking in the hole through the bolt face on one of them. He wouldn't fix the problem when I asked him to.

Yes that's the only problem I can find thru research . I emailed GreTan and Greg said he would have to look at to see if he could bush it .

I have one and it is a fine action. Those bolts are HARD!!!! Had the bolt bushed and the gunsmith said he will never do another one. It took carbide to get it done. Bushing job turned out great though and the gun works fantastic.

I have one on my 243AI, a rifle that Bob built for me, and the action is very nice EXCEPT for the bolt handle to bolt body attachment. The attachment point is very small compared to most actions and will not tolerate any abuse. Other than that it has been a first class action. One reason the RFD action is so slick is that Bob had the bolts industrial hard chromed. That may be part of the hardness making the firing pin bushing job so difficult. Everything I have ever seen made by Bob Dodd was made to meticulous, idealistic standards.
