I was going through a bunch of old barrels that I had in a shipping container at my Shop, and came across a 30 caliber that simply said….”1-17 Krieger, Frozen”.
Remembering back, it was a barrel I bought years ago along with a 1-18. the 1-18 shot phenomenal, better than the 1-17 if I remember correctly.
At that time, Cryogenic Treating barrels was in vogue, so on a whim, I sent the 1-17 to a company that did that. I can’t ever remember putting it back on the Rifle. I probably did, but a lot of bullets have hit the burn since then.
So, I decided last night to put it back on my favorite Score Rifle and see if it was worth messing with.
I put my regular load of 35.5 grains of N130 behind my own 112 Grain bullet. I got it sighted in, done few adjustments on the tuner, and shot this. Two really nice groups, both in a different condition. I then shot 5 individual bulls eyes, Xing all five.
This barrel shoots pretty darned good, and while being possibly 15 years old, looks to be a really good barrel. It is definitely aging better than I am.
Here is the target I shot this morning.
