Reuters report Trump Administration preparing to ease gun export law

From what I understand this is about transfering the export law from the state department to commerce. Hopefully this will mean the ITAR license wont be required for gun repairs done in this country.

I've always felt that all the US restrictions on guns & gear was designed to protect the US manufacturers' franchisees in other countries.

Maybe they were, but like many laws that impede free trade, there are affects that the crafty crafters didn't think about. Small businesses usually take the hit. What laws large companies consider an "annoyance law", small companies consider a "fatal blow".

There is so much to do to rectify ill advised regulations that have flourished over the past eight long years that it might take a while to get round to all of them. Here's hoping that the process continues.

The SHARE ACT is working it's way through the house to the chagrin of the Washington Post and all guv control advocates. The dream of easing travel restrictions for us gun owners might be coming to maturity. The easing of the draconian 1934 GCA restrictions on (silencers) suppressors is riding on that bill as well. Hunters, fishermen and any one needing to carry armed through federal lands will also smile.

There are many roadblocks ahead though. The senate led by non partisan idiots must be overcome and that is a stretch.

Oh crap! I guess I shot myself in the foot by posting that stock building thread. ?:p:p:p:eek: I kinda gave away the "secret recipe".:(

I don't think this would have any impact on your Australian laws.

Not so much on our laws as long as it isn't semi-auto, you have a gun license and you get an import approval (not difficult for licensed shooters) we can import things. but ITAR and US Dept. Of Commerce regs affect what can legally be exported to outside countries, like Australia.
The current regs are outrageous and make buying things as innocuous as Rifle stocks, scope rails, rings, barrels and even nuts and screws very difficult. The seller (in the US) takes on considerable risk in conducting commerce with parties outside the US as there are complex and usually expensive licensing requirements. It's crazy because there would be considerable opportunities for manufacturers and US businesses with clients in Australia.

I don't get it because these are easy wins and with R's controlling both House and Senate, this should have happened 6mths ago...o_O

should have but here in the US it takes the pols a long time to get much done. One big part of this for us is the requirement for gunsmiths doing business only in the US to have an ITAR license should be dropped.

I'm all for selling anything to anyone as long as they are not selling to an Islamic country/people. That's a security statement, and not one of bigotry or racism.
If you don't know Political Islam yet, Dr. Bill Warner is your man. It's time everyone knows!

As far as i understand it, it doesn't even need to be voted on. It should just be the president's decision.

Saudi Arabia happens to be one of our biggest buyers. Major dollars for U.S. businesses, no matter which religion they adhere to.

What requirement? FFL's went into frantic overload the last time someone made that claim. Unless the rules were rewritten recently, there is no such requirement. It's spelled out in plain english that it's required to those who "Export" .

I would not believe for one minute that the Commerce Department is any less stringent, when they want to be.

Our "enemies" do not have any airforce or navy. They only pose a threat if we go to their country.
Hopefully this does get rid of the ITAR bs
