Respectable tripod for chronograph

Looking to do away with my portable table I use for setting up my chronograph (Chrony) , looked at a few different ones ranging anywhere from 60 all the way up to 250 bucks.

Was just wondering what some of you guys are using , I need something that will fold and telescope etc as I would like it to fit in my shooting box (It is a large one on wheels but still not quite a trunk lol) .... I don't mind spending a few bucks extra so long as it's going to last as I will be using it even during frigid temps etc... If a cheap one will suffice then I'm ok with that too lol.

Patch,

I use a no-name tripod that includes a hook on the underside of the main stem. I've made a sandbag (4 Lbs +/-) tied to a lanyard that ties into the hook, keeping the tripod very stable. My Chrony sits on top of it and works well.

Ok that also answers another question I had , assuming the tripod was to be elevated aprox. 4 feet how much stance is needed in order to keep it stable.... Your weight hanging from the frame sounds like it would help in this situation. Thx for your time.

I like to have stuff do more than one thing so i use the one for my spotting scope. I got a Bogen off Ebay used for a 100.00 It's very heavy and it doesn't stay around in the wind like the cheap ones. I think it was 400.00 new…….. jim

Good point Jim and thanks for the info.. I did manage to find a nice one today at a photography supply shop that looks well built and should serve its purpose quite nicely , cost me 130 Cdn .

+1 for Bogans from Ebay (johara1). I ended up with 4 (just barely enough) including one that the legs splay to around 75deg, a real wide footprint that makes it windproof and a big heavy duty that holds my 80mm pentax still. I don't think any real good one will fit in your shooting box but all can be strapped to a cart well eough.
