Resizing reamer Dimensions

I’m wanting to make a set of custom dies for a .338 improved. I plan on using Newlon Die blanks. I bought the finish reamer from JGS and they said their typical dimensions for a resizing die for the body is -.004. Does this seem right? Seems a little loose to me. What does everyone spec their dies at?

thanks

Thanks for everyone’s advice.

Sarah at JGS said -.012 on the neck was standard.

Loaded cartridge neck diameter will be .368 but I figured on a .365 neck diameter. I can clean up the necks if I need slightly less tension.

does that sound right?

my finish reamer is .371 non tapered neck.

Neck diameter is a different issue altogether. I think the responses prior have been relative to chamber vs sizing die reamer, for the body. The Newlon sizing dies that I've seen are bushing dies, where the neck diameter is irrelevant to the body dimensions....but I could be wrong.

My post was relevant to body dimensions, as neck diameters can be all over the place.

As for neck diameter...do you plan to turn necks? If not, what is the loaded round diameter of an unturned loaded round?

I don’t plan on neck turning...loaded round should be .368.....I was going to order a .365 neck. If I need less neck tension I could clean up the necks.

If you plan on using Newlon blanks, like @gunsandgunsmithing said the neck dimension of your sizing reamer is irrelevant as the Newlons use bushings. I just did this exact process with JGS a few months ago and initially scratched my head as well, until I ordered the blanks.

Listen to jgs- they know what theyre doing. Once you start figgerin and change dimensions from what they know works then you get what you get.
