resizing die problems or operator problems???

Hey fella's"
I am stumped,I resized new nosler .308 brass down to 7mm-08 with a rcbs full length sizeing die set to just resize the necks. The brass looks like it has been ran through a expander die you would use on straight wall pistol brass. ( A bell @ the end of the neck) I have tried readjusting the die from anywhere from partial neck sizing to bumping the shoulder with the same results. You can remove the expander ball and rod and see the brass is fully engulfed in the die ( lots of room left in the die for more neck) I have a redding bushing die coming with multiple bushings maybe I am trying to take it down to much in one stroke?? any thoughts please.

the collapse of the shoulder is usually from -too little lub on the neck,-the case going too far into the die - or the die body rough in the neck area, if the dies are new, clean them very wll then lub, reset them off the shell holder and size part of the neck then adjust to complete the sizing just touching the shoulder

this has worked for me many time

Never seen that before. I've sized Lapua, Winchester and Rem 308 brass down to 243 in one shot with no problems. 7mm should be a cakewalk.

Is the bell on the inside only? Is it possible what your seeing is the factory chamfer magnified from resizing?

No the bell is out like a funnel. If you sized the case normally then take a expander die and open up about the top .080 or so. that is what I am seeing, the opposite of a crimp. When I just size the 7-08 brass I don't see it?Thanks for the Ideas.

Very odd.

Even though its new brass I would anneal one of those belled cases and run it back through the die. See what happens.

I will give that a try, Thanks.

Try running your brass thru your seating die first, and then thru the full sizing die, that will take it down in two steps.

I agree it is very odd Wayne, Normally the other way round and rolled in.
Try removing expander ball and screw die right out to just touch neck. Then take very small turns and keep rocking the press up and down as you turn a little more every time. It works for me every time and only takes 30 seconds or so a shell.

foxc57,
Thanks I will give it a try.

camac,
I generaly never run a expander ball, although I have tried it on this project trying to eliminate any probable's If I need to expand the necks I use a redding expaner mandrel die. And yes as you stated it is usually tapered,or belled in not out. I am not exactly new to reloading and actually I guess it is no big deal as my redding bushing dies will be in any day. It's I just find this problem weired and totally opposite of anything I have found in the past as far as a problem in sizing up or down brass. I have never posted a picture before but tomorrow night after I get back from taking my dad elk hunting I will give it a try. You know it is odd if I don't run the expander ball the die actually makes fairley concentric ammunition ??? I am confident that one of your suguestions will work or one of your suguestions that havn't been posted yet will work, you guy's have never let me down yet :)
Thanks again for all your efforts.
Wayne.
