Residental verses Commercial shipping question

Went to order some items from a vendor and was given the choice Residential/Commercial. The difference in price for UPS shipping was almost 50% more for residential. So why should I be honest and pay 50% more?????? Slightly confused.

When the UPS driver realizes he/she is delivering to a residence rather than a commercial address, he/she might not deliver it, but rather send it back to the shipper?

UPS AS A RULE DELIVERS TO COMMERCIAL ADDRESS in the am, and to residential addresses later in the day when the working person maybe home.
i would hazard a guess that ups almost never has to make a second trip to a commercial address for a delivery, on the other hand they have to make three attempts for a residential delivery...
simply the cost of doing business...
it is typically a $5 fee...so i am guessing your package is something small...

Yep, it's small, however the shipping is half the cost of the item. I think I'll just do without right now rather than pay fifteen dollars shipping for a thirty dollar item. Call me cheap, but that just rankles me a bit. If I absolutely had to have it that would be another story, but i don't so I'll pass for now.

UPS knows if your addy is commercial or not. If you claim commercial, and it turns out to be residential, the shipper (vendor) will get popped for the additional $$. Then they might bill you additional shipping.

Jhord is correct. The driver inputs info into their board as to whether it is a residential or commercial delivery. If you mark it commercial at the point of shipment, you will get billed the difference on the next bill. They charge additional for residential and even more if you live more than about a block out of a major town. Yes, it can be up to double the price easily. You would be amazed at how many people don't know where they live, and if they don't the UPS driver surely doesn't either.

on the other hand..i run a business out of my house.....so i often time tell them commercial..they deliver nearly 8 hours earlier than if marked resident...same drive, same truck same day

and yes i have had several discussions with them on it being a business address

If UPS is like FedEx they do an automated search to see it the address is a recognized business address
