request for Quickload data - 9mm

Apologies for the request but I don't have a computer with the operating systems (Windows and Linux) required to run it. If QL ran on Chrome OS I would buy the program in a heartbeat.

9mm Luger
Trail Boss powder
X-treme 165gr .355 copper plated round nose
18" barrel (Ruger PC Carbine)
COL - 1.135"
CCI small pistol primer

curious what the pressure and velocity would be at 100% case fill under the seated bullet.

Thank you

I ran Quickload with a similar bullet and Trail Boss. The results were peculiar, and unbelievable - so much so, that I won't share the results. It may be something's wrong with the propellant profile, because a full case resulted an extremely low charge weight, pressure and velocity. Something's amiss.

Although I never tried it in 9mm, I think Trail Boss isn't the right powder anyway. Might be the reason it's not listed for 9mm on Hodgdon's data site.

It’s my understanding that trailboss isn’t to be compressed.
If in reference to my post above, "full case" means 100% loading density; not compressed. And you're right, Trail Boss should not be compressed.

Not likely off by much. 2 grains in an empty case is about all it will hold.

Comparative data from Hodgdon would be 38 Short Colt. Same case capacity. And the guns that shoot it were very weak action black powder revolvers. So a 12,000 pound load would be pushing it. We’re talking about a case half the size of a 38 Special.

Going to an extra heavy for cartridge bullet, in an extra long barrel is a recipe for a bullet stuck in the bore. Never mind the slide opening while the bullet is in the barrel.

Never mind it’s sure to turn an autoloader into a hand fed rifle.

That describes Trail Boss pretty well. I don't think it's usable in 9mm even with a lighter bullet now. If you like sharing QL data, can you try the same combination except with Unique powder?

What's your end goal?

There are plenty of published loads ranging from powder puff to way hot that will run fine in a PCC (well, maybe from just above powder puff, but you get the idea.)

Trail Boss was intended for Cowboy Action Shooting where velocity was largely irrelevant, recoil was undesirable, and the possibility of double (or more) charging was reduced. It's not really a general use powder.

For the Unique question:
(NOTE: Do not use this load directly - it's right at max allowed pressure): Using a CamPro 158gn RN (plated?) bullet (.355" diameter), 4.38 gns is max at 33827 psi (allowable 34084psi), with 97.9% fill ratio. Velocity calculated at 1214fps. This is simulated using GRT.
