I have a 1973 Rem 788 LH in 6mm (LH bolt/RH eject) and was wondering which path to go down when it comes to replacement stocks. Purchase a blank and have it replicated on a machine or have a smith whittle one up for me. Cost is a factor, and it would seem a clone would be the least expensive route by far.
My factory stock is okay, looking, but would like to preserve it as is. I would like to have a med. varmint barrel instead of the sporter barrel and all that that entails.
So far, I have found two companies that will semi-inlet a stock for the RH action (with the safety cut on the right-side) which I need. They will not inlet the RH bolt so I can have the LH bolt inletted after the fact.
Recommendations as to my thought process and who you would have do this, would be appreciated. I really like this rifle and would like stick with it as opposed to looking for a traditional LH bolt and LH eject. Not known for having a lot of cents or sense. Just the way it is.
