Replacement cross bolt for Burris Signature Zee rings?

There was a thread awhile back about replacing the cross bolt screws that come with Burris Zee rings with a hex head screw. That would certainly be better than the std. screw, but I'd really prefer a torx head. I've got Zee rings on a number of rifles and would really like to replace the cross bolts.

For you guys that have replaced your cross bolts, where did you get the replacement screws and what is the correct size to get? Does anyone know if Burris sells a replacement?

Why on earth Burris does not ship these with torx head screws is beyond me......

Thanks much!

Steave,

There was a thread over on Benchrest Central. The size was #6-40 x 1 inch. One of the posters had located a box of 100 and had them in hand. They were socket head screws and I bought enough from him to change over three sets of rings. They work fine, maybe a little short but not much. They leave something to be desired with respect to looks. I have since deleted the PM's involved.

I agree that Burris could improve their product a great deal by including a torx head screw in their place. As far as I am concerned they could go to a #8 screw and improve them more. Some of the discussion went toward drilling and tapping the rings to #8-40 threads and then button head torx screws of the correct length were reasonably available.

Fasten Al (or correct spelling) will have them. The last two sets of Burris Signature Zees I have purchased had torex on the top and allen on the bases. Tim

Give Burris a call, you may be suprised and they might send you some free.

If you are planning to use them on a picatinney rail, i replace them with 10-32 cap screws. Just set them up on the drill press and drill out to the tap size then drill the one side to clearance size for the 10-32 and then run the tap through the clearance side and it will guide the tap. now get longer screws, they will have a long shank and cut the threaded end as needed. looks good and can be torqued too 65 in.pounds....jim
