To get the same contour as the original Tikka Varmint you would have to order a barrel.

A few years ago I replaced the barrel on a Tikka Varmint and bought a Rem Varmint contour from Krieger and had them turn down the breach end to 1.150". Then i had to open up the barrel channel in the stock a little.

Most of the top manufacturers Bartlien, Kreiger, Brux, etc. will make barrels more accurate than the stock barrel but the problem is the contour and stock you plan to use. As stated above most smiths should know to turn down the breach end to 1.150" as noted above since the Tikka action is tapered at the shoulder.

So your factory .223 barrel is shot out? How many rounds did you get out of her? Just curious is all.

I since I don't own a lathe and had no luck removing the factory barrel on my own, I sent my barreled action into Douglas for a barrel swap. They turned it around crazy fast, I think it was 3 or 4 weeks but hard to remember. Shoots lights out. I wouldn't hesitate to use Douglas for my other Tikka.

If you do your own lathe work and chambering, I'd go with any of the good mfgs. Douglas, bartlein, Krieger, Miller works, Brux, etc. which ever is available in the profile and twist you want via bungholes or another place that sells barrels.

If you have to order custom, Douglas again would be the fastest. If you are in no hurry I'd go bartlein or Brux.

Watch this page. You could get a takeoff factory 223 varmint barrel. Maybe if you email him, you could get it set aside for you when he gets one.
