Replace accu-trigger

I have an accu-trigger in my Savage model 12 Varmint rifle what trigger can I use to replace it one that will go down to 1 to 1-1/2 pounds a decent one that will not break the bank Thanks Lou

I would avoid Rifle Basics at the lower weights. With Savage and a trigger "slip", the rifle de-cocks. With a Rifle Basics trigger in it FIRES. I know all too well that this is a problem at the lower , say 8-10oz weights.

Savage makes a different Accutrigger for target use. It will go down below 10oz but can be set up to maybe a full pound or more. Think that's a better and safer option.

The Rifle Basix SAV-1 trigger will adjust to your desired weight and it is much easier to adjust than the SAV-2. The SAV-2 CAN be touchy - safe operation at the lower range of pull weights requires careful attention to weight of pull adjustment, sear engagement, over travel and safety engagement. You can spend a hour or more adjusting a SAV-2 for SAFE operation at very light pull weights, but if all you're looking for is a good, crisp 1.5 lb. trigger, the SAV-1 will save you time and money. I have the SAV-1 on a couple of varmint rifles and I'm very happy with them.

Have to agree w/ CaptainMal on this one. Given TODAYS options I've abandoned the other options listed above and use the Savage target trigger. Economical, reliable and most importantly SAFE. No chance of accidental discharge moving from "safe" to "fire". Draw back? You'll still need to train yourself to move the red trigger blade STRAIGHT back........ look at "my fix for accutrigger" by: noload below under: similar threads. Pretty slick idea ;)

I have two savages with Timney triggers. About 1 1/2 pound and breaks like a piece of glass. If I was to change an accu-trigger (which I wouldn't) I think it would be Timney.

You might want to consider a red blade target accu- trigger take off. My PTA came with one and it is set on 6 oz. I don't think the others can beat it for pull weight.

OP, on the rifles that came with the target accu-trigger, I still use them. On models without them, I use the Sharpshooter trigger -- which works well in your range and somewhat below. I also found the Sav 2 trigger tricky to adjust low and had to stone some parts to even get close to the low end they advertise.

Ok, but I'm not going into Canjar land. 8ozs is low enough for me.
